“Identity of the Self” at Garis&Hahn, New York 2013

The artworks are able to ‘collect’ the comments in various ways. You can tweet,  or you can physically place a note inside the slit of the artwork.

In a sense the comments in the artworks are their opposites, on the one hand placed by visitors who see the art in “real” life when they stand in front of it, on the other hand the printed text that is automatically generated by systems based on a look at a digital reproduction.

The handcrafted technique used to physically make the artpieces, also stands in contrast with the modern technology used to “fill” them.

Of the resulting piece, the work that has been filled, the work that is transferred, one could wonder if it has obtained more identity or additional value?
